Travelling Light!?

Quite often people ask “How do you travel so lightly and always appear well put together?” This has brought me to the subject of this blog.

I have travelled for 4 weeks at a time and not checked a bag.  The time saved at baggage claim is significant, I refuse to risk losing my luggage, I don’t want to be burdened with lugging bags around and I don’t ever feel as though I have ever packed too lightly!

It begins with the right luggage. Right now I’m using Bric’s 21” Rolling Duffel Carry-On. It’s a soft case, incredibly light and it’s spacious enough to fit in everything I need. I always include a longchamp collapsable tote for an additional carry all if needed and perfect for those unexpected purchases. I also use their small nylon zip bags which are the perfect size for cosmetics and toiletries.

I only travel with sample size items of all the cosmetic products that I would use at home.  I buy clarins when they have a gift with purchase and these become my travellers. Packing is never a burden, as my toilet bag is always ready to go. An ideal travel wardrobe is one that can be mixed and matched into a variety of outfits. I carefully think of which clothing items will work best for me and I narrow down to insure that everything from shoes, handbags and accessories coordinate beautifully.

Shoes and a smaller handbag are packed in their dust bags for protection. I line the bottom of the case with these items. The wardrobe items are layered on top with tissue. If you need even more room, rolling some of your essentials like dresses and tees and work out clothes helps save some space, and keeps things wrinkle-free.

The Nike Free Run is the perfect lightweight travel shoe. They flatten out in a travel bag taking up much less space than a conventional running shoe. Another essential travel item is a puffer coat which is a must.

The day I fly, I wear a cashmere wrap that serves as a cozy blanket on the plane and works well with all of my daytime and evening choices. I carry my larger handbag and wear my wedge shoes which would take up more space than the other shoes.

Below you will see my actual 5 day New York City wardrobe, which will keep me comfortable walking,  off to some smart lunch spots and refresh into lovely evening dinner attire. And, I still have extra room in my case!
