Tricks To Eating Out & Eating Well!

Eating out is one of my greatest pleasures. I spend a lot of time in restaurants which means that I cannot really control what ends up on my plate. Eating out however does not have to sabotage your healthy diet. I use smart eating strategies.

I tend to ask that my entree be steamed, baked or grilled and I avoid any options that are fried or sautéed. Always, always have any sauces served on the side, as this is often where the real calories come in. Most Chefs will accommodate this sort of request while keeping the dish pleasing to the palate, rather than a plate of blandness.

Be deliberate when ordering. Substitute vegetables in place of a starch, requesting they be steamed and without butter. An entree salad with baked or grilled chicken, low fat cheese or seafood provide plenty of protein along with fibre and other nutrients. I typically ask for a clear salad dressing or just oil and vinegar on the side.

When I know I might be making more than reservations for dinner, Sunday is the perfect day to take the time to make a Hearty Stew, Mexican Casserole or Veggie Chilli. I often double the recipe and freeze half. This helps balance the meals out and gives me a chance to be Clean and Lean. Don’t reach for cheese and crackers on a busy week night, when you can have a nutritious dinner on the table in minutes.

There are endless recipes online that are incredibly delicious with an abundance of healthiness. Combined with fresh herbs and spices, options are plentiful and tasty.
